A message to the author:My wife and I recently welcomed a foster son, age seven, to our home, and he along with our fifth grade son both appreciated receiving a copy of your book, Henry Gets Moving, when you delivered them to Hadley Elementary School a few weeks ago. Both boys comment that it is a very good book that teaches healthy habits.
So far, our second grader has read your book three times, and he says, "that you could do what Henry does for exercise." He also says that, "you could eat like Jasmine, making more healthy choices in what you choose to eat." Like so many kids, he is aware of weight issues and wants to be healthy. Your book reminds him how that getting moving and eating right makes you healthy. Our fifth grader agrees, "Henry gets us thinking about healthy habits and getting moving." He is now spending his winter evenings climbing rock walls at a local gym.
The whole family is preparing for an upcoming 5K charity run. Henry really got us all moving!
Thanks for the book and thanks for spreading the word about healthy eating and the value of exercise.

Henry Gets Moving Pierre Rouzier MD Chaz Nielsen Pierre Rouzier Catherine Lazar Odell 9780967183121 Books Reviews
Let's Get Moving is a great children's book and an inspiring motto. Henry is a likable fellow who shows how anyone can start to exercise and enjoy greater well-being. The book is positive and fun, and supports connection with others and moving together. This book should find a home in every pediatrician's waiting room and elementary school library, as well in the hands of parents who want to help their children-- and themselves-- get moving.
As a Director of a multi-sports camp and as a registered nurse, I have become increasingly alarmed at the poor health of US citizens. We know this is directly attributed to lowered activity rates and poor nutrition. Thankfully, Henry is here to get us all off the couch and moving! Delightful to read and inspiring, the book puts hope for a more active future into the hands of our children. With this knowledge, perhaps they will lead us back onto the path of healthy eating and active bodies!
This book is fabulous. It has a powerful message for children of all ages and the story of Henry's struggles and triumphs are applicable to everyone. The illustrations are brilliant and bring the characters to life with personality and style. We all have been there- feeling lethargic, lonely, and self-conscious and it is so easy to give up hope. Henry refuses to do this- with the help of his sidekick Jasmine, Henry embarks on a journey of healthy eating and exercise. Along the way he finds his confidence and builds himself a foundation of wellness to last a lifetime. Get this book and get moving!
Henry Gets Moving is a great story about a hamster who realizes he needs to do something about his weight to be able to better enjoy life on many levels. As an Elementary School Teacher, I feel children this age will be able to relate to Henry's situation, especially eating junk food and sitting in front of "screens". Having the junk food list spelled out for the reader makes it more real, and might hit home a bit. Poor Henry gets stuck on the playground equipment and can't keep up with his peers. Even if children aren't overweight, that scene could conjure up feelings of "I don't want to be like that!" It is also a good story for parents to read, as Henry's parents "got moving" and felt better about themselves, too.
Henry's story is thoughtfully crafted to deliver a clear positive message about holistic healthy living. The humor is respectful and engaging, and the story-line about Henry's sadness after his family's move resonates with children and adults. We are using this book as a group read in our bilingual after-school program to help children learn to make healthy food and activity choices and are delighted with the way it has been received by the children and their parents. In response to the children's requests after a group read-aloud, we are planning a field day event organized around Henry's experiences. Thanks, Team Henry!
I recently purchased this book for my young son who struggles with his weight and is starting to become self-conscious about it after being teased at school. This book is great because it not only has helped him practice his reading skills, but it also has inspired him to start eating healthy and getting moving! He now asks for fruits and vegetables in his lunch and says he doesn't want to eat chips or sodas anymore. He also reminds me to eat healthy at home and always wants to play outside after school! It's been almost a month now and he's already losing weight. His turn around is really inspiring and I have to give the credit to Henry for helping to teach the importance of getting moving and eating healthy!
The message in Henry Gets Moving is so important today for children and their parents. It is written to be read by children of elementary school age or to younger children. It tells the story of Henry the Hamster, new to the neighborhood and new to the school. Henry can't keep up with the other kids because he is out of shape. He would be very lonely were it not for Jasmine, an energetic and encouraging friend. Henry and his parents soon discover how well eating good food and exercise make them feel.
The tone of Henry Gets Moving is kind and compassionate--never snide or preachy. And its winsome illustrations make him all the more loveable.
I am a member of the baby boomer generation and one who sees others my age pay the price for a lifetime of bad eating; who remembers "nutritious" childhood lunches of Wonderbread, High C and Fritos. This book is a welcome resource for the children in our lives, fun to read but full of sound advice (for all of us!)
